蜂について学ぼう Help the Bees of Yamagata!

朝日町「ハチ蜜の森キャンドル」の安藤さん、蜂愛を爆発させてくださいましたね〜！子どもたちだけでなく保護者さまも真剣に聞き入ってしまうほど、笑いあり驚きありの楽しい安藤さんのお話でした。そして何より、私たちがもっていた「蜂に対する考え方」を改めさせてくださいました。自分たちで作ったBee Houseに蜂たちが遊びに来てくれるこれからの季節を楽しみに、デコボコ英語ではこれからも安藤さんの活動をサポートしつつ、蜂について学んで行きたいと思っています。

Mr. Ando from Hachiro no Mori Kandoru visited Deko Boko Eigo, and taught us all about bees and other pollinators. We were all very excited to learn about all the important things our misunderstood friends do for the world we live in. We learnt so many new things about bees, wasps, and hornets, Mr. Ando totally changed the way I feel about them, and I know I'm not alone in that feeling! We then worked hard, putting together our very own Bee Houses to help make our garden's more friendly for our neighbourhood pollinators in preparation for spring. Mr. Ando, thank you so much for coming, it was a really eye opening experience!

庄司屋さんとそばを作ろう Making Soba with Mr. Shoji

そば処庄司屋の庄司さんが、デコボコ英語でそば作りを教えてくれました。 混ぜる、こねる、のばす、切るの行程をグループごとに協力しながらこなしていき、美味しいそばが出来上がりました！出来上がった自分たちのそばを庄司屋御殿堰七日町店でいただきました。 庄司さんと田中さん、それから庄司屋御殿堰七日町店のスタッフのみなさん、ありがとうございました！

Mr. Shoji, the legendary Yamagata Soba chef, returned to Deko Boko Eigo to teach us how to make the perfect Soba (Buckwheat) noodles. We learned how to mix, knead, roll, and cut delicious soba noodles, and worked together in teams to make our own lunch. After finishing up making the noodles, we all walked to the Nanukamachi Shoji-ya, where Mr. Shoji prepared our lunch for us. Thank you to everyone who took part, especially Mr. Shoji, and all the staff at Shoji-ya!

ハナさんとクリスマスリース作り Making a Christmas Wreath with Yukako

今年のクリスマスもまた、たくさんのエバーグリーンに囲まれながら、ハナのユカコさんからリース教室を開いていただきました。リースの由来、そして使用する材料などを英語で学び、作成中もWrap、 Choose、 Attach、を使いながら、親子協働作業で自分たちだけのリースを作り上げました。ユカコさん、それからアシスタントの門馬ちゃん、ありがとうございました！

This December, we were very happy to be joined once again by Yukako-san for a lesson in wreath making. First, we learned about the purpose of wreath making, and talked about their significance at Christmas time. We then mastered the three key verbs for making wreaths: wrap, choose, attach. Finally, we got elbow deep in evergreen, pine cones, rose hips, cotton flowers, ornaments, and all manner of strange and beautiful dried flowers provided by Yukako-san from her gorgeous shop, Hana. Working in pairs, and with Yukako-san’s expert advice, everyone wrapped with evergreen, chose their decorations, and attached them to their wreaths, making some truly lovely Christmas decorations. Thank you to everyone who took part, especially Yukako-san, and her kind assistant Monma-chan. Merry Christmas to all!
