8月に行われる花笠祭りを前に、デコボコ英語での7月のワークショップは「紅花とまつり」について学びます。紅花を使っての染色には、金森 彩也夏さんをお招きし、高瀬の紅花とその地で昔から人々に守られてきた獅子踊りについては、宇治川さんと井上さんに教えていただきます。
花笠祭りの笠は、紅花の紅餅を干している光景を笠にしたものです。私たちが今回使うのは紅餅ではありませんが、高瀬にある「デコボコ紅花畑」で育てた紅花を使います。
With Hanagasa just around the corner, come and join our July workshop, 'Benibana and Festivals'. Ms. Kanamori is coming to show us how to make dye from Benibana flowers, and two enigmatic Benibana farmers from Takase, Mr. Ujikawa and Mr. Inoue, will also be stopping by to share their Benibana know how, and also to teach us about another Takase speciality, Shishi Odori!
Although the red pompoms on the Hanagasa hats actually represent Beni mochi, the dried and fermented flower cakes which are used to make a brilliant dye, we won't be using dried Beni mochi for our dying. Instead we'll be using the Benibana which we've been growing ourselves at the Deko Boko Eigo Benibana Farm in Takase!
